COB Based Sound Generators (SG Series)
 Many
of these projects are based around Chip-on-Board (COB) Sound Generator technology
used in toys, dolls, door chimes and Message Recorders etc. South East Asia
is now the major centre for making chip-on-board (COB) electronics. And
Quasar Electronics is the only UK supplier that we know of that is supplying
these items to the public in general & the hobbyist in particular. We have
put together a range of these items.
COB means that the very small die form of the IC is bonded directly onto
a PCB and the copper tracks come out from it. A blob of black epoxy covers
& protects it. The benefit is a saving in space. We are buying these COB's
on larger than usual PCB 16mm x 29mm, so that the student can solder the
external components to it with a minimum amount of difficulty.
Our supplier is currently in the process of making mother boards for
the COB PCB's to plug into. This will make it easier for the user to solder
the components to the kit and to physically support it in its Application.
Kits that are supplied with a motherboard have an 'M' at the end of the
part number.
These interesting project kits are easy to build and can be used in a
variety of applications.
KITS: Each kit contains a small (16mm x 29mm) COB PCB and all
of the other components required including a speaker, switches and
battery holder. Unless otherwise specified, kits are supplied with components
for 3Vdc operation (2 "AA" batteries), but can be modified to operate from
2.5-5Vdc.
Kits with an 'M' suffix are supplied with a motherboard for ease of assembly.
COB PCB ONLY: We can also supply the COB PCB on its own. You supply
all the other parts required.
Melody Card Packages
 These
kits really are great fun for both adults and children. They can make receiving
cards and presents more enjoyable and fun. They can also make excellent
'attention grabbers' in promotional products.
Each kit contains two complete, ready to use units. Each unit comprises
a COB PCB, switch, battery and Piezo transducer speaker mounted on a self
adhesive backing for attaching to the inside of cards, books and cases etc,
so that it plays the tune when opened. Ideal for personalising birthday
cards and presents. Unit measures 35 x 80mm.
