3189 - 120 Second Message Recorder (ISD17120)

Feature packed non-volatile 120 second multi-message sound recorder module using a high quality ISD17120 by Winbond. Standalone operation using just six onboard buttons or the onboard SPI interface. Record using built-in microphone or external line in (best results). Speaker and analogue AUX outputs. Wide 8-24 V dc operating voltage. Adjustable sampling frequency.

These chips are designed for operation in either standalone or microcontroller (SPI) mode. This kit provides interfaces for both.

Onboard controls for RECORD, PLAY, VOLUME, ERASE, FORWARD, RESET and LINE/MIC input selection. Selecting a different message will override the currently playing message.

If you press and hold the PLAY button it will play all messages sequentially. If you only record one message then it will be played over and over.

The sampling frequency of each chip can also be adjusted from 4 kHz to 12 kHz with an external resistor, giving greater flexibility in duration versus recording quality.

Recordings are stored in on-chip Flash memory, providing non-volatile storage when power is removed. The audio data is stored directly without digital compression, which provides better quality voice and music reproduction. For practical purposes an unlimited quantity of messages can be stored (see ISD1700 series datasheet timing diagrams for specific details).
