3118 - 12-bit PC Data Acquisition & Control System

Powerful, high precision 12-bit PC Data Acquisition System. Allows quick, easy and economical data acquisition and control to be carried out using a PC parallel port. It uses a Maxim MAX186 IC that combines an 8-channel multiplexer and high-bandwidth track/hold and has high conversion speed and ultra-low power consumption.

Measuring just 60x55x20mm, 3118 is able to fit into your shirt pocket and with its low power requirements it can be run from a 9-12V battery making it suitable for portable situations. It is suitable for use from students to professional researchers and engineers.

Hardware Specifications

• 8 single ended analogue inputs reading 0 to 4.096 Volts.
• Analogue inputs can withstand up to ±20V
• 12-bit ADC. Conversion time: <10usecs (Note - using windows software reduces this speed)
• 4 digital inputs to monitor the status of switches and valves. TTL and CMOS compatible
• 4 digital outputs capable of sourcing and sinking 6mA. TTL and CMOS compatible. Used to control relays and solenoids
• Unit fits inside an extended D shell case provided which plugs into the parallel port of your PC. Finished Dimensions (mm): 55Wx70Lx15H.

Data Acquisition Software

The data acquisition and HMI program supplied free with 3118 makes it one of the most powerful data acquisition and control devices for its price on the market today. Running under Windows XP/2000/NT/ME/98 and 95 it allows the user to:

• View the analogue inputs. They can be viewed as raw readings 0 to 4000 or in engineering units
• View the status of the digital inputs
• Control the status of the digital outputs
• Display the analogue inputs on graphs or trends
• View the maximum and minimum values for each of the analogue inputs
• Log analogue inputs and digital inputs and variables to disk
• Can display alarms
• Has a control language consisting of 50 If-Then statements allowing calculations and control to be done
• The program configuration can be saved to disk
